About Backgammon Duel
Backgammon has survived for a few thousand years because the dice never decide a game on their own. A roll hands you two numbers; what you do with them, whether that is running a checker to safety, hitting an exposed opposing piece, or stacking a point to block their route home, is where the game actually lives.
This version presents the standard board without decoration. The dice roll on screen, pieces move on clicks, and the finish is the traditional one. If you have never played, the opening moves feel arbitrary for two or three games and then stop feeling that way, once you start noticing which points are worth holding and why.
How to play
Roll, then move your checkers by the numbers shown, one number per move. A checker sitting alone on a point can be hit and sent back to the start; two or more on the same point are safe. Bring every checker into your home board, then bear them all off to win.
Controls
- Click the dice to roll them.
- Click a checker, then click the point you want it to travel to.
- Rolling a double gives you four moves of that number instead of two.
- The board is legible on a computer and cramped on a small phone screen.
Tips
- Avoid leaving a lone checker within direct dice range of an opponent’s piece.
- Building consecutive points in front of an opposing checker is usually worth more than racing forward.
- Once you are clearly ahead in the race, stop hitting and simply run for home.
