Twelve word tiles sit on the bench. They belong to three groups of four — things like board game pieces, studio verbs, weather words — and your job is to work out which four go together while collecting as few strikes as you can.
Every set is written by hand rather than generated, which is the point. The overlaps are deliberate: a tile that obviously belongs to one group will usually also read as a plausible member of another, and the puzzle is really about spotting which reading survives when you look at all twelve at once. A board that took ninety seconds to write can take five minutes to unpick.
How to play
Select four tiles you believe share a link, then submit. A correct set locks in with its category name revealed. A wrong set adds a strike to your tally and clears your selection. Solve all three groups to finish — there is no cap on wrong guesses, only a record of them.
Controls
- Click or tap a tile to select or deselect it; four is the maximum.
- Submit tests the current selection.
Tips
- Start from the group you are most sure of, but count the leftovers before submitting — if your confident four leaves an incoherent remainder, one of them belongs elsewhere.
- The tile that seems to fit everywhere is usually the key to the group you have not spotted yet. Set it aside and solve around it.
- Categories are specific rather than broad. “Things that are fast” is rarely the answer; “ways to move quickly” is closer to how these sets are written.
- After a strike, resist re-submitting a three-tile overlap with a different fourth. Re-read all twelve first; the wrong tile is often not the one you swapped.
