About Tangram Puzzle
Seven pieces, one outline, and the requirement to use all of them. That last condition is what makes tangrams harder than they look — a shape you can nearly fill is worthless, because the leftover piece has nowhere to sit and the arrangement has to be dismantled.
The pleasure is in the moment the silhouette resolves. You stare at an outline that looks like it could be assembled a dozen ways, place the two large triangles somewhere sensible, and everything else either follows in seconds or refuses entirely. Experimenting freely is the correct approach here; a piece sitting in the wrong corner is often the only reason the rest will not fit, and moving it fixes three problems at once.
How to play
Every level shows a silhouette that must be covered completely. Drag each piece from the tray onto the board and set it inside the outline. Nothing may overlap and no part of the shape may be left uncovered when you finish.
Controls
- Drag with the left mouse button to move a piece into position.
- Clicking a piece rotates it by forty-five degrees, so eight clicks bring it back where it started.
- There is no touch build, so play this on a computer with a mouse or trackpad.
Tips
- Place the two big triangles first. They eat the most area and have the fewest positions that work.
- Look for the sharpest angle in the outline and ask which single piece can produce it — usually the small triangle or the parallelogram.
- If one piece will not fit at the end, move the large one you placed first rather than fiddling with the small ones.
