About Word search

Each round hands you a grid of letters and a topic — the words all belong to one subject, which is more help than it sounds. Knowing the theme lets your eye pre-load likely letter pairs and skip the ones that lead nowhere.

Words sit horizontally, vertically and diagonally, and they overlap, so a letter you have already used may belong to two answers at once. That overlap is what stops the later grids from being simple scanning work. Backwards diagonals are where most of the time goes.

Controls

  • Press on the first letter, drag through the word without releasing, then let go on the final letter. The word highlights and ticks off the list.
  • The same gesture covers mouse and touch. In landscape on a phone the grid fills the screen comfortably, though larger grids reward a bigger display.

How to play

Find every word on the topic list to complete the board. Selections are only accepted along a straight line, so a word must be traced in the exact direction it was placed — no bending mid-drag.

Tips

  • Hunt for rare letters. If a word on the list contains a J, X or Z, that single character usually appears once or twice in the whole grid.
  • Scan diagonals as a separate pass rather than hoping to notice them while reading rows. They are easy to miss and they hide the longest words.
  • When a word refuses to appear, try reading the grid backwards along the row you have been staring at. Reversed placements defeat normal reading habits.
