About Pottery Master
Clay spins, you press into it, and a shape emerges from wherever your hand has been. There is no clock, no score and nothing to lose. The loop is shape, refine, glaze, then look at what you made, and if a curve goes wrong you simply push it back and try again.
The painting stage is where personal taste appears. Colour goes onto the finished form, and two people starting from the same lump will end up with completely different objects. It suits a quiet twenty minutes rather than a competitive one, and since the shaping wants steady, precise movement, a mouse on a computer serves it much better than a fingertip.
How to play
Work the spinning clay into a form you like, refining until the profile looks right, then move on to colour and finish the piece. Start a fresh lump whenever you want to attempt a different shape.
Controls
- Left click and hold to shape the clay and to work the tools against it.
- Menus, colours and tool selection are all handled with a left click.
- Fine control matters here, so a desktop or laptop is the better place for it.
Tips
- Settle the overall silhouette before adding detail, since fine work on a wonky profile still reads as wonky.
- Small, slow passes produce smoother walls than one long pull.
- Think about the colour scheme before the first stroke. Shaping forgives second thoughts more readily than painting does.
