About Squarehead Hero
Every action costs a turn, including the ones you waste. Movement happens tile by tile, combat resolves by walking into things, and the enemy takes its step the instant you take yours. That exchange rule makes positioning the entire game — where you stand when you strike decides who else gets to reach you afterwards.
Weapons matter more than health does here. Bump an enemy while armed and you deal damage; bump one without a weapon and you are simply blocking. Loot is scattered through the rooms and the inventory holds only a handful of items, so a run becomes a chain of decisions about what to carry and what to walk away from.
How to play
Move one tile at a time towards loot, exits or enemies. Walk into an enemy to trade blows, assuming you have something to hit with. Use an inventory item while a fight is going badly rather than afterwards, then gear up and drop into the next dungeon.
Controls
- Arrow keys move on desktop; swipes in the four directions do the same on a phone.
- Number keys 1, 2 and 3 trigger inventory items, and tapping an item icon works identically.
- Hovering the pointer, or a tap and hold on touch, reveals what an item or enemy actually does.
Tips
- Inspect an unfamiliar enemy before touching it. The gesture costs nothing and a bad trade costs the run.
- Fight in corridors rather than open rooms so only one enemy can reach you per turn.
