About Love Colors

This is one artwork rather than a library. An Art Nouveau portrait, with swirling leaves and blooms threaded through the border, waiting to be filled in reds, pinks and paler tints. The drawing is dense enough that a careful pass takes a while.

With a single image on offer, the tools carry the experience, and they are the right ones. Zoom brings you close enough to shade an individual petal, dragging colours a broad area without a hundred separate clicks, and undo means a bad experiment costs nothing. The result downloads as a file when you are done. Fine work like this wants a mouse, so a computer is the better place for it.

How to play

Choose a colour, then fill the outlined regions one at a time or in sweeps. There is no goal beyond the picture you end up with, and any stroke can be stepped back if the shade turns out wrong.

Controls

  • Click a swatch to select a colour, then click a region to fill it.
  • Drag across neighbouring regions to colour a large area in one pass.
  • Double-click to zoom in for detail work.
  • Right-click to undo the last fill.

Tips

  • Block in the background before the figure, so the portrait reads against something rather than floating.
  • Keep the reds and pinks within a narrow range and let one saturated tone carry the focal point.
  • Zoom before touching anything near the floral border, where neighbouring regions are only a few pixels apart.
