About Sudoku

There is nothing to explain about Sudoku that a hundred million newspapers have not already explained, so the only question worth asking about any given version is whether the interface stays out of the way. This one does. Pick a difficulty, tap a cell, tap a number. Clean digits, no decoration competing with the grid, and the puzzle state is kept if you close it mid-solve.

The difficulty settings matter more than they might appear. The easier grids are solvable purely by scanning rows and columns; the harder ones require holding candidate sets in your head, because the board offers no pencil-mark crutch to lean on.

How to play

Fill all eighty-one cells so that every row, every column and every three-by-three box contains the digits one through nine exactly once. Select a cell, choose a digit, and use erase to take a digit back out. The puzzle ends when the last correct cell is filled — the clock is there if you want to race yourself.

Controls

  • Click or tap a cell to highlight it, then pick a number from the pad below the grid.
  • Erase clears the selected cell. The portrait layout keeps the number pad under your thumb on a phone.

Tips

  • Work the digit that already appears most often on the board. Six or seven placed nines usually force the remaining ones outright.
  • Scan boxes, not just rows. Beginners look along lines and miss eliminations that only show up within a three-by-three block.
  • On harder settings, stop guessing. One wrong entry propagates and you will lose more time unpicking it than you saved.
