About Word Cross

The presentation does a lot of work here. Grass and timber textures, unhurried animation, no clock anywhere on screen — it is built for the sort of play where you put the phone down mid-level and come back later. With hundreds of levels in the queue, that is probably the intended rhythm.

Mechanically it is a letter ring feeding a crossword grid. What sets it apart from similar games is the dictionary: words you uncover can be looked up, so the vocabulary you build is not just pattern recognition. Boosters exist for the stubborn boards, in the form of magnifying glasses and firecrackers.

How to play

A ring of letters sits below the grid. Trace a path through them to spell a word — the path can double back and change direction freely — and let go to submit. Anything valid lands in its slot in the crossword above. The level ends when no empty squares remain.

Controls

  • Hold the mouse button and drag over the letters; releasing submits whatever you traced.
  • Touch uses the identical motion. Landscape suits it, and there is no penalty for a wrong swipe, so experimenting costs nothing but time.

Tips

  • Because failed guesses are free, run through vowel-consonant combinations rather than thinking hard — the grid will reject anything wrong instantly.
  • Fill the crossing squares first; a single confirmed letter in the middle of a long slot narrows it dramatically.
  • Keep boosters for grids where one slot blocks the rest, not for the first word that resists you.
